The Faces of Estevan Labour Market Services

Dorna MacDonald
Manager, Client Services & Program Partnerships
"I've been working here for 25 years. The reason why I like this job is because I like helping people reach their goals and I enjoy working with my colleagues because they are passionate about their work. My job entails looking over the whole operation of the Labour Market Services in Estevan!"
"I love having the summer students here because they are really interested in what the labour market services entails. They like to ask questions and they like to dig deeper into aspects of this job. The student's interests go beyond what the job title is. They are always curious in understanding certain contracts or programs that we have to offer."
"The reason why it is so important to have summer students is because students bring fresh eyes, new ideas, and energy. Having the students gives us an opportunity to have a future workforce within the provincial government."

Carol Grill
Client Information Officer
"I started working for Labour Market Services in 2003. I have contact with the employers, following up on job orders and I also get to work with clients with a real range of computer skills. It's a different change from Social Services. There's more one on one opportunities with the clients. I feel like I'm making a difference and helping people. Working for the Government has given me great benefits with every other Friday off. Summer students are a huge benefit to our office. With their help it frees some of our time up so we can catch up on some of the work that we may not have a lot of time for."
"The students bring life to the office by using their bubbly personalities. The students are a breath of fresh air and are very good with the clients. A funny memory that I have of the students is the camera episode. What happened was the students were told to mail the camera to the Yorkton office, but instead mailed it to the Estevan office!"

Deanna Brown
Client Service Consultant
"I began working on December 16, 2013. I enjoy the people I work with. Work is different, but it still incorporates my background in education. I LOVE paperwork as well as the clientele interaction. I would say this job gives me a lot of variety so I'm not stuck doing the same thing everyday. As well as being a consultant, I look after the Canada Saskskatchewan Job Grants that has been implemented this year."
"Without students, we would never have a chance to catch up on our work. Students allow us to have some breathing room to focus on what needs to get done. They help us stay organized and on track. They allow us to take a vacation and not have a pile of work when we get back."

Kim Enns
Client Service Consultant
"I've been working here since October of 2014, nine months now. I like the mix of client work and contract work. I look after a variety of contracts including Southeast Advocates for Employment and Southeast Newcomer Services. Besides contract work I also work with clients on accessing training programs and career counselling and guidance."
"I really enjoyed getting to know the students, loved their enthusiasm and our little tours meeting some of our partners.. (hopefully more to come later in the summer!)"

Alana Clow
Client Service Consultant
"I've been working here since the middle of December of last year, so six months. I enjoy the people I work with and I have a great manager. Work is challenging but not overwhelming. As for contracts, I look after the Estevan Area Literacy Group as well as the Southeast Regional College. I enjoy the good mix of clients and paperwork."
"My favourite memory of the students is that they are very enthusiastic and I like that the students work as a team. It's cute that they could be doing their own work but they choose to do it together!"
